State of Georgia illegally extends state jurisdiction over Cherokee

Georgia creates state laws to take Cherokee lands and attempts a break-up of the Cherokee nation. Legally, only the federal government had nation-to-nation jurisdictional authority. President Jackson, however, ignores enforcing legal authority and supports Georgia’s efforts as it lays the groundwork for Cherokee removal (Nies, 1996).
